Neck and Shoulders

Headaches:
Many people complain of neck pain and stiffness, and often these symptoms can lead to a tension headache. Tension headaches are common and because they are muscular in origin respond well to massage therapy.

There are many classifications for the different types of headaches you can experience, for example; migraine, chronic, trauma-related. Your therapist will discuss your symptoms so that they have a better understanding of what type of headaches you suffer from.

Shoulder pain and stiffness:
Shoulder pain and stiffness are common, whether from sitting at a desk all day, driving or doing physical work, our shoulders are active. This can lead to tense muscles that cause us pain or to more serious problems such as tendonitis.

Other Conditions:
torticollis, whiplash, bursitis, frozen shoulder

Back

At one time or another we will all experience back pain. There are many reasons you may experience pain, it may have been from having “pulled a muscle” when straining to lift something heavy, or perhaps from having sat in an awkward position for an extended period of time. Depending on what has caused your back pain, and the severity of the injury, your symptoms may be mild to severe and your recovery time will vary.

Massage has proven to be extremely helpful with back related injuries.

A full case history will be taken and discussed so we may address your particular injuries/concerns.

Other Conditions:
degenerative disc disease, arthritis, herniated disc, scoliosis

Legs and hips

A leg massage can be relaxing and invigorating, improving circulation and easing the discomfort associated with tired and achy muscles, and let’s not forget our feet because they deserve attention too.

Cramps, especially at night, can be common; see newsletter on cramps/spasms.

If you are experiencing problems with your legs or have had an injury let your therapist know.

Conditions: Plantar fasciitis, pes planus (flat feet), anterior compartment syndrome

Arms/hands

With so many of us working at computers, arms, hands and wrist injuries are becoming more and more common. Tight forearm muscles can lead to tendonitis at the elbow joint and poor desk ergonomics often result in problems developing in the wrists and hands.

Keeping your arms healthy and joints mobile is important.

Conditions:
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, circulatory conditions, “tennis elbow”

Note:
There are many other conditions not listed here for which massage therapy is recommended. Your massage therapist will go over your health history with you and discuss the risks and benefits of therapy. Should they feel that massage is not appropriate and that you need to seek the advice of another health care professional, they will make that recommendation to you. They also may suggest that you would benefit from seeing a complimentary health care practitioner such as a Chiropractor or Physiotherapist.

At TouchWorksLondon our first concern is your well being, comfort and safety. If you have any questions please feel free to call or e-mail.
